Tim's Kitchen

What I am loving ... the chance to show
foodies my favorite eats in Hong Kong.
Tim's Kitchen on Bonham Strand, Sheung Wan
is a must-visit if you ever find yourself in Hong Kong,
if only for the "Steamed Whole Fresh Crab Claw with Egg White".
But, remember, to call one day in advance to order the crab claws.

Other things to order:
Crispy Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork with Pineapple,
Deep-fried Frog Leg with Peppercorn Salt,
Roasted Crispy Baby Pork Belly,
Sauteed Pea Shoots,
Sauteed Rice Rolls with Minced Beef

Window-shopping

What I am loving ... Gucci's window.
I am not much of a fan of Gucci.
But, this time, I have to say that I am loving the dresses
that are on display in their window in Central!
The drapery on that short dress on the left is simply enchanting.
The long one would be perfect for niece's graduation ball ...
bling-y and simple.
If it weren't for the hefty price tags ...

Just because it's Christmas!

What I am loving ... the Christmas spirit!
I am one of those people who, more often than not, wears black.
This is because I am too lazy
to plan my outfits in advance.
I actually decide what to wear a few minutes before I leave for the office.
I've been like this forever
which is why I decided years ago
to fill my wardrobe with black.
I've been told to wear some colour many, many times.
And, in celebration of this yuletide season,
I've taken to brightening up the look.

Crans Montana

What I am loving ... this perfect picture
taken by my Feng Shui Master and BFF RP!
RP took this last year in the front yard
of our friend's weekend retreat.
I am as blue as the skies!

Flashes of red

What I am loving ... improving on perfection!
As people were clubbing on Saturday evening,
RR, CM and I were putting the finishing touches
on my Christmas decor at home.
Now, we are as festive as ever!
So festive that I threw a dinner party on Sunday night.

Takashi Murakami in Hong Kong

What I am loving ... being at the happiest place on earth.
No, it's not Disneyland.
At least, not yesterday, when happiness was the
I was with RR and CM.
They allowed the taking of pictures.
What a treat!

Christmas is here

What I am loving ... coming home
especially when I am surprised by a visit
by my Christmas stork RR!
I was feeling rather scroogie until last night.
I've got to have a party!
Thank you very much, RR!

Wa'ko-ni, my Indian princess

What I am loving ... after a long wait ...
I finally got my Wa'ko-ni!
I was shopping with my friend JG
who was looking for an anniversary gift for his wife MG.
Our first stop was the Hermes shop at Lee Gardens in CWB.
I was so speechless when I saw this Indian lady
smiling at us as we entered the shop!
JG got one in blue-violet or MG.
And, I got one in red-orange for myself.

A new-old apartment

What I am loving: turning something old into new!
I bought a one-bedroom apartment in Makati (Philippines) a few months ago.
It was pretty old-fashioned but I super-loved
the space and the big windows.
It screamed "lots of potential" to me.
I asked my architect-cousin to gut it completely.
I just got the pictures and am so excited to share ... and to see
the place in person.
The best way to see how far we've gone
is to compare the before and after pictures.

Pretty in Pink

What I am loving ... a rose on my wrist.
This is not mine.
This is my friend TB's new watch.
It's a gift from her dear hubby AB.
I am in Switzerland at the moment.
The land of chocolates and watches.
It just seemed to be the right time to make this post!

"My Birkin Collection"

What I am loving ... my 2 Birkins.
I only have 2 so it's not really a collection.
The problem is this: since I got into Birkins,
I can't seem to get excited with the "others".
I am not being a snob.
One of the reasons is that I have no moolah
since I just bought a flat.
The other reason is that I am content with these 2
and my white St Louis tote.
But, after 2 years of daily abuse,
my Goyard was in ICU.
And then, this morning, my breakfast of fruits
spilled into bag. Terrible.
R.I.P.
Though I have no moolah, I do need to get myself an
everyday bag: light-weight, versatile, and can fit all my stuff.
Any ideas?

I've been away

What I am loving ... the quiet life I've been living recently.
I've hardly been travelling.
I have not been blogging.
It's great to be grounded.
I am so excited about various little projects of mine.
I will talk about those in the future.
In the meantime, here's a small "reveal".
After my place was featured here,
I got a message from the friendly people of IKEA's new digital magazine.
Yes, you will be seeing me there soon!!!
If, like me, you have discovered the wonders of IKEA
and wish for your place to be featured,

My food spread

What I am loving ... what a little imagination can do
to spice up a party.
Would you like to be invited?

Sunday 17 June 2012

Preparing for an all-white-party

What I am loving ... the things I can buy at Ikea.
I am hosting a baby shower for a very dear couple.
And, I have been obsessing about an elegant yet inviting food spread.
These are the materials I scored after spending two hours
in Ikea Causeway Bay.
Frankly, the crowd there was overwhelming.
Watch out for my next post for THE LOOK!

An instagram moment with Warren Platner

What I am loving ... my new coffee table by Warren Platner.
Warren Platner (1919-2006),  an American,
studied architecture in Cornell,
worked with Eero Saarinen and I.M. Pei,
and rose into prominence in the 1960s.
In 1966, Knoll started producing an entire line of Mr Platner's
steel wire and glass furniture.
It continues to do so to this day.
I love the way the steel gently curves ...
so much softness in an element which can be so hard and unyielding.
This is one piece that I know I will enjoy for the rest of my life.
It's timeless.

This is my first instagram photograph
and,  clearly, I need lots of practice.
My apologies.

I've been blogged!!!

What I am loving ... desire to inspire!
I have been an avid reader of Jo and Kim's blog for a long time now.
It's a treasure trove of design ideas.
Aside from the work of noted design experts,
they also regularly feature contributions from their readers.
Their pets on furniture posts are so heartwarming.
I wrote them two weeks ago with pictures of my Hong Kong flat
and I am so thrilled that they made this post on 30 May.
Many thanks, Jo and Kim!

Hermes Dogon Wallet in Etoupe

What I am loving ... my Hermes wallet.
I use this everyday ...
even when travelling.
I love that it has two compartments.
One for my main currency the HK dollar
and another for whatever foreign currency I am carrying on any given day.
At the moment, I have some Thai Baht leftover
from my just-concluded 6-day holiday in enchanting Thailand.
Yes, I even brought my wallet to the beach!
There are also enough slots for credit cards, IDs, etc.
There is a small purse inserted as well
for whatever special stuff that you need to keep with you.
Perfect for someone like me who does not
like to change wallets.

My feature wall

What I am loving ... my feature wall.
When I was preparing to move to my new apartment,
I read a number of design magazines
and I was visually impressed by feature walls.
For my dining room, I chose to have a fashion wall.
10 beautiful Richard Avedon pictures
chosen and framed by my friend Kurt
(who styled the whole flat)
and photographed below by Xavi Bakker.

A tablescape

What I am loving ... an interesting tablescape such as the one
I have on top of my Tibetan cabinet.
A pair of Jonathan Adler elephants, a Cire Trudon candle,
a wooden boy statue bought in Chiang Mai 10 years ago or so,
plants on an African wooden container (I was told this was
used to collect milk), and an Ikea lamp
set against two pastels by Philippine artist Philipp Badon.

Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge (the LC4)

What I am loving ... my LC4.
I gifted myself with my dream furniture piece in 2010.
That was after dreaming of owning this iconic chaise since 2003!
Some things are simply worth a seven-year wait!
This picture is by my photographer-friend Xavi Bakker.

Steel Daytona by Rolex

What I am loving ... my Daytona.
I got this three years ago.
I am glad I did then as watches, like everything else,
are getting more and more pricey as we go along.
I like the symmetry of it's face.
I also think that 40mm is the biggest case that my wrist can carry.
The pictures are by my photographer-friend Jun Madayag.

35cm rose shocking Birkin with palladium hardware by Hermes

What I am loving ... my rose shocking Birkin!
I got this, my very first Birkin, in 2009.
At that time, this was my favorite color.
It still is ... and I think fuschia is such an iconic color.
I still love it!!!
This picture is by another photographer-friend Jun Madayag.

Life in a quiet little street in Hong Kong

What I am loving ... my new home in a little back alley in Hong Kong.
I walk to work, restaurants, bars, and shops.
It's amazing how quiet it is here.
An oasis hiding in plain sight.
Overt is being covert.
These awesome pictures are by my photographer-friend
